Italian architects began to adopt photomontage and collage techniques only at the end of 1920s. In decade before Second World War, these provided with a visual key distinguish themselves from academies’ canonical representation; seek an affiliation European avant-gardes; be recognisable in architecture competitions. They also constituted critical tool for investigating designing. Their peculiar evolution is exemplified work Milanese architect Piero Bottoni. Passionate about photography cinema, Bottoni used different purposes, not least their latent political subversive potential, which was already implicit artistic avant-gardes. this sense, analysis some his photomontages, are today preserved Archivio (APB) Milan Polytechnic, reveals both intent introduce anti-academic, ironic realistic language, as well importance cinema original source architectural communication.
